Fahhhbio…named for those dreamy blonde locks and his way with the ladies. Everybody knows he is large and in charge and doesn’t play around when it comes to protecting the flock.

I purchased Fabio at livestock auction for $12. His beak was cracked, so I had to hand-feed him for a bit until it healed up. This quickly established a level of trust and respect between us. I don’t mess with him and he doesn’t mess with me. We’re a team that looks out for the good of the flock. Fabio quickly worked his way up the pecking order, became the alpha roo, and has maintained his position ever since. Young roosters might challenge him from time to time, but are put back into their place very quickly.

Fabio is a game cock, a breed often used for cock fighting. The other roosters in the flock respect his position and there is no need to fight. He has actually been a really great rooster to have around. While he isn’t thrilled with being picked up, he is quite calm and even fell asleep in my arms during a vet visit. I try not to embarrass him in front of the ladies, so I leave him alone unless it’s necessary to handle him.
